In the 2007 apocalyptic thriller I Am Legend, Will Smith walks past a movie billboard with both the logos of Superman and Batman on it, suggesting there would be a Batman v Superman movie sometime in our future. As opposed to what some viewers thought, this wasn’t meant as a nod to the Batman v Superman released in 2016.
Akiva Goldsman, who wrote and produced I Am Legend, actually said that he’d been hired to write a script for a potential film about both superheroes, which was later shelved. Instead, Warner Bros went on to making Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, and Akiva thought it would be fun to pretend his film existed in the I Am Legend’s universe.
