[post_page_title]The good ship in Skyfall[/post_page_title]

Skyfall was successful for many reasons, and it was truly a great way to mark the franchise’s 50th anniversary. It’s also an expertly layered film, especially if you note this little detail. In one scene, Bond and Q sit at the National Gallery in front of a painting called “The Fighting Temeraire” – a war ship dragged off to be broken off. That was a fair depiction of how Bond seemed in the eyes of his critics at that time.

The good ship ‘Skyfall’

After he defeats Silva and gets his street-cred back, we see another painting hanging in M’s office. It’s Thomas Butterworth’s “HMS Victory”, in which you see Nelson’s triumph in the Battle of Trafalgar. Right behind the HMS Victory is The Fighting Temeraire, which had been restored to its former glory.
