Sunshine is the story of Icarus II, a spaceship on a mission to the sun that receives a stress signal from Icarus I, its missing predecessor. The crew decides to board the Icarus I and look for the missing crew, unaware that they had lost their lives.
During the movie, the crew’s flashlights shine into the camera, and in each of those times, there’s a single frame that went unseen by most people. Director Danny Boyle spliced in the images of the deceased crew of Icarus I, using photos of a Hawaiian party the crew once attended. This was Boyle’s way of getting the viewers on edge, without revealing what happened to Icarus I.
